How Many Skeptics Have You Spoken toToday?

John Maxwell’s word today is Skeptics.

You can watch the video here:

One of the dictionary definitions of the word Skeptic: a person who maintains a doubting attitude, as toward values, plans, statements, or the character of others.

As John pointed out, we all have skeptics in our lives.

These are people who just aren’t sure they trust you, believe in you or  believe in you what you are saying.

It can get us down because we want everybody to like us.

We want everyone to feel they can believe and trust us.

Of course, we know that trust has to be earned.

No matter how good you are …how well you lead…how well you know what you are talking about –  some people just aren’t going to accept it.Image

There is nothing wrong with healthy skepticism.  We cannot believe everything we hear … that is foolish.

But, not everybody can put their skepticism aside and listen with an open mind.

John mentions that we can wait for those people to finally “get it”.

His philosophy is to do all the good for the all people who want to be helped.

Those folks will listen, trust you and then do some research on their own and come up wit the answers that will work for them.

The others can’t get past their skepticism and walk through the new door that might be opening for them.Image

It’s a choice .. you can change your life with a new idea or you can grumble and complain that you can never catch a break.

Here are some quotes that might put it all into perspective:

“If you are only skeptical, then no new ideas make it through to you. You become a crotchety old person convinced that nonsense is ruling the world. (There is, of course, much data to support you.) But every now and then, a new idea turns out to be on the mark, valid and wonderful. If you are too much in the habit of being skeptical about everything, you are going to miss or resent it, and either way you will be standing in the way of understanding and progress. ”
– Carl Sagan

“If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?”
– Albert Einstein

“They are ill discoverers that think there is no land when they see nothing but sea.”
– Francis Bacon

“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.”
– Emerson

“Advances are made by answering questions. Discoveries are made by questioning answers.”
– Bernhard Haisch, astrophysicist

There is no better soporific and sedative than skepticism.”

“No Pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit”
– Helen Keller

“Daring ideas are like chessmen moved forward; they may be defeated, but they start a winning game.”
– Goethe

“The beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand.”
– Frank Herbert

“Sit down before facts like a child, and be prepared to give up every preconceived notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abysses Nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.”
– T.H. Huxley

“Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn’t.”
– Mark Twain

“A man with a new idea is a crank until he succeeds.”
– M. Twain

“Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.”
– Frank Zappa

Forget about your past experiences & failures! Put your skepticism aside and believe there are new ideas out there that might change your life.

Great Success & Abundant Blessings!
